David Acuff
Adjunct Professor
Environmental Sciences
David Acuff has been professionally involved in environmental resource
management for twenty five years. His professional interests involve
preserve planning to insure the survival of rare and endangered plants
and animals in the face of growing urbanization.
He has traveled extensively in Europe and the South Pacific, and his
outdoor interests include backpacking, rock climbing, and alpine
wildflowers, but he also freely admits a fondness for sitting in
coffee houses and reciting poetry to anyone who will listen.
In his spare time he practices Iaido (the art of drawing and
cutting with the Japanese samurai sword) and meditation grounded in a
belief of the sanctity of all sentient beings. He wonders about the
apparent contradiction, too.
Education he feels should be a joy. "People often confuse serious
and somber. There is a world of difference. We are very serious about
conservation and restoring environmental quality, but we have fun
doing it."
